I wonder: is it deliberate that she is always depicted way to short compared to adults? On her own she looks very well twelvish (e.g. in the title-graphic)
Yes, it is a deliberate exaggeration. Although to be honest, consistency may not have been the best in the early strips – I didn’t have much of a plan in mind when I first started drawing Lena, and I hadn’t quite made up my mind yet about her size.

My impression of her age was about 8-ish, personally.
