Instead of the talk, Mom could have just let Lena watch Pixar’s Turning Red. Sure it mentions pads, but it’s about turning into a giant red panda.
Lena: That what happens? OMG, I can’t wait!
Congratulations all the US states who successfully managed to get sex ed abolished from public schools (leaving it in the hands of parents not even that far removed from this example)! I’m sure that the number of teenage pregnancies tripling in the years since, while the rest of the USA is declining, is entirely unrelated.
Teen pregnancy rate in Europe is lower than USA. Sex education is taught earlier then here with more information given. Sex is a natural human function, but the Christian ‘prudes’ here don’t want people having sex until 18 or marriage whichever comes last. Schools are supposed to educate and prepare people for adulthood. Denying them critical knowledge does not promote the welfare of society.

Till than, Lena can behave as her mom deserves
Modern thinking has it that instead of one TALK the parent gives kids talklets — bits of information that answer an immediate question. Just sayin’.
Is the grandma aware that of how they’re treating Lena?
Grandma only seems better by comparison. Go back to the Christmas present strip. She’s certainly benign, but that’s about it.
